Website development cost in India, by what you build

Creatisoul teamUpdated 8 Nov 202612 min read

Short answer

Website development cost in India runs from a few thousand rupees for a do-it-yourself template to ₹10 lakh or more for a custom platform. Most agencies charge ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh for a business website. We build business sites for ₹40,000–₹60,000 and custom-designed sites for ₹70,000–₹1 lakh, + GST.

Chapter 1

What is the website cost in India, by type of website?

A basic site of 5–10 pages costs ₹5,000–₹50,000, depending on who builds it. A business website of 10–20 pages from an agency costs ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh. A custom web application or portal costs between ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh, or more.

These are the ranges published by the pages that rank on Google for this search, side by side. The website type sets the band; who builds it moves you up or down inside it.

A basic site introduces you: who you are, what you do and how to reach you. A business website does more work: a page for each service and each place you serve, written to be found on Google, with forms and WhatsApp that reach you.

Online stores are their own band, ₹30,000–₹5 lakh, depending on the products and the payments. We don't build online stores today.

Chapter 2

Who should build it: a builder, a freelancer or an agency?

A do-it-yourself builder costs ₹2,000–₹15,000 a year in subscription. A freelancer builds a template site for ₹25,000–₹60,000. An agency charges ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh for a business site, and does more of the work for you.

A do-it-yourself builder is fine for a simple page you'll update yourself. You do the writing, the photos and the setup, and you rent the site for as long as you pay.

A freelancer is a good choice when you know exactly what you want and can write it yourself. One person rarely covers design, words, search and speed equally well, and support depends on them being free.

A web development company costs more because more is done: the plan, the words, the pages for search, speed checks and support after launch. Choose the right builder for the job the site must do, not for the price alone.

What is the website development price in India with us?

We build business sites of up to about 20 pages for ₹40,000–₹60,000, custom-designed sites of 30–40 pages for ₹70,000–₹1 lakh, and sites with a custom backend for ₹1.2 lakh–₹2 lakh. All + GST, one-time, with the first year of care included.

A business site is built on our design system with your photos or stock photos: the pages for your services and places, written to be found, fast on a phone, with forms and WhatsApp in place.

A custom-designed site gets its own design, more pages and photo or video work. A custom backend adds the system behind the site: a CRM for your enquiries, client logins or an AI chat, built to order.

Your written plan gives the exact price within 48 hours, before you decide, because two sites are rarely the same build.

Chapter 4

What is the website design cost in India: template or custom?

A bought, template-based site costs least, but looks like thousands of other sites and is hard to change. A design system, like ours, gives you a site that looks like your business at a business-site price. A fully custom design costs most and suits brands that must stand apart.

Website design cost in India follows the hours: a template needs a few, a design system a few days, and a custom design weeks of drafts and reviews.

Design also decides speed. Heavy templates load slowly on a phone, and slow sites lose enquiries and rankings. A site built for your pages stays fast, because nothing in it was made for someone else's.

Web development is the other half of the price: turning the design into pages, the editing system you use, and the forms, WhatsApp and search setup behind them. Most agencies price design and development together.

Chapter 5

What do website development charges pay for?

Website development charges pay for the plan, the pages, the words and photos, the editing system, the setup for search, the forms and WhatsApp, speed checks and launch support.

The pages are most of it. Each page needs a purpose, words, pictures and a place in the menu, and pages written to be found on Google take research first.

Then what you don't see: titles and schema for search, a sitemap, redirects from an old site, an SSL certificate, analytics, and a site you can edit yourself.

Ask for these in writing. A low quote often leaves out the words, the search setup or the move from your old site, and you pay for them later.

What a build includes, line by line

  • The planThe pages, who each is for and what each must answer.
  • The pagesA page for each service and each place you serve, in a responsive design that reads well on a phone.
  • The words and photosContent writing for your buyers and for search; your photos, stock photos or a shoot.
  • The editing systemA CMS you use to change words and add pages yourself.
  • SEO setupBasic SEO: titles, schema, a sitemap, speed checks and redirects from your old site.
  • Forms and WhatsAppEvery enquiry reaches you, with where it came from.
  • Launch supportFixes and changes in the weeks after the site goes live.
Chapter 6

What moves the price up or down?

The number and kinds of page, who writes the words and takes the photos, languages and locations, features and integrations, the deadline, and whether an old site moves over.

Pages are the biggest lever. A 10-page site and a 40-page site differ mostly in the writing and checking each page needs.

Features add the most at once. Payments, bookings, logins and a link to your CRM each mean building and testing a system, not a page.

A redesign isn't always cheaper than a new site. Moving an old site without losing its rankings takes care: every old address redirected, and every page that ranks kept.

Chapter 7

What is the website maintenance cost in India each year?

Expect ₹500–₹1,500 a year for the domain name. Basic annual maintenance, covering hosting, SSL renewal and security updates, costs ₹5,000–₹30,000 a year. Our care costs more because it includes development work every month.

The market's maintenance figure usually covers hosting, renewing the SSL certificate and applying updates. Changes to the site, new pages and fixes are billed separately, by the hour.

Our care includes up to 6 hours of development work a month, along with hosting, updates, backups, security and uptime. The first year is included in the build. From year 2 it costs ₹6,900–₹9,900 a month.

Compare like with like. Long-term maintenance is where the hours add up, so if you expect changes every month, price the hours too.

Chapter 8

What should a website quote spell out?

Who owns the domain, the code and the words; whether it's built for you or a resold template; where it's hosted and whether you can move it; how many pages it includes; and what happens after launch.

Ownership matters most. The domain should be in your name, and the site's code and words should be yours to take elsewhere.

Read what a quote leaves out as closely as what it includes. The words, the photos, the move from an old site and support after launch are where low quotes save money.

A website quote, checked

  • The domain is registered in your name
  • The code, the words and the photos are yours
  • It's built for you, not a resold template
  • You can move the hosting if you want to
  • The project scope and the number of pages are written down
  • The words, the photos and the old-site move are in, or priced
  • It says what happens after launch, and what that costs

Frequently asked questions

Questions about website prices

What is the website design price in India?
A bought template costs a few thousand rupees. Most agencies price design inside the build: ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh for a business site. Ours is part of the build too: ₹40,000–₹60,000 on our design system and ₹70,000–₹1 lakh for a custom design, + GST.
How much does it cost to develop a website in India?
Website development cost in India runs from a few thousand rupees for a template to ₹10 lakh or more for a custom platform. A business site from an agency usually costs ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh. The pages, the words and the features move the price most.
Is a one-page website enough?
For a new business or a single offer, it can be a start. But one page can only rank for a few searches, and buyers look for a page about each service and each place. Most businesses that want enquiries from Google need a page for each thing people search for.
How long does a website take to build?
It depends on the pages and the features. Your written plan sets the dates before work starts, and you watch the site grow on a private preview link. Words and photos arriving on time are what keep a launch on its date.
Do your prices include GST?
No. Every price of ours on this page is before GST, which is 18% on website development. Your written plan shows the price, the GST and the total, so you know the full figure before you decide.
Is a redesign cheaper than a new website?
Not always. A redesign that keeps the old structure can cost less, but moving a site without losing its rankings takes care: every old address redirected and every page that ranks kept. A fresh build with a careful move often costs the same and works better.
Do I own the website you build?
Yes. The domain is in your name, and the site, its words and its photos are yours from the first day. We host and look after it in the care plan, or it runs on your own hosting if you prefer.
